Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United only half a year following leading disrespectful chants directed at their manager, Wilder.
This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a deal joining the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. His seven-year time at Elland Road was ended amicably in August.
Among the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading offensive chants about Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Now, the former England player will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to rescue his beloved club out of the relegation zone.
The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight the previous campaign and United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. The manager described the forward as “a muppet” back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
All appears to have been put behind them with United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost in attack and Bamford aiming to resurrect his career.
The song about Wilder went viral this spring. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.
Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I’ve no issue whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow pro! However I valued and respected him giving me a call.
“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and we had a half-hour chat together and he is a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that’s an integral part of football across all levels, even on Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Patrick.”
The forward made 18 games with Leeds United last season however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Boro striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
