The ex-lawyer for the former president has left her position as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This follows a judicial decision that challenged her legal standing to occupy the role.

Acceptance of Resignation

The nation's top law enforcement official, Pam Bondi, announced the prosecutor's departure on Monday. Bondi stated that the judicial decision made it impossible for her to perform her duties.

"Let no one confuse adherence to the ruling as defeat," she declared. "My fight will now reach across the nation."

Court Ruling

Her resignation comes a week after a federal appellate panel ruled that she had been acting without proper authority as US attorney. This judgment is likely to affect scores of legal proceedings in New Jersey.

The appellate judges ruled that a acting appointment that skirted the advice and consent of the Senate violated the federal law governing appointments.

Ongoing Legal Battle

The Attorney General added that she will continue working within the Department of Justice as a senior adviser. Habba plans to pursue additional appeals of the disqualification, with hopes of a overturned decision.

On a social media platform, Bondi argued that judges "cannot be permitted to override the appointment of attorneys responsible for carrying out the executive branch's core responsibility of prosecuting crime."

Performance in Office

Bondi praised the prosecutor's work and said that under her leadership, the state capital of Newark saw a one-fifth decrease in crime. She also stated that the Camden had its first summer in 50 years free from homicides.

Legal Career

The 41-year-old attorney, was initially recruited to the former president's legal defense in recent years. Subsequently, she represented Trump in his business records case in the previous year, leading to his guilty verdict on dozens of charges of document fraud.

Prior to her appointment to the federal prosecutor position, Donald Trump had stated he was selecting her as his White House advisor if re-elected, calling Habba as "unwavering in her loyalty" and a "tireless advocate for justice".
