Ultra-Conservative Former Legislator J.A. Kast Voted In as Chile's Next Leader.

Following a conclusive runoff election, hardline candidate José Antonio Kast has won the top job in Chile.

A Resounding Victory

With more than 99% of polling stations reporting, Kast won 58.17% of the votes, overcoming leftist candidate Jeannette Jara, who earned 41.83%.

This represents Kast's third attempt at the presidency, having in the past been beaten by the sitting president, Gabriel Boric, in the 2021 final vote.

"We have numerous questions about what a Kast presidency will look like that we don't know because he has not explained the way he will achieve them," noted a political professor.
