Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Might Finish... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that Pluribus would emerge as a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the acclaimed program coming to an end—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—the creative team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like force fed something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Does the showrunner Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by fan response, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… in a way.

“We have some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to discard a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, one could always use the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
